Childhood cancer research receives approximately 4% of the National Cancer Institute's budget. Less common cancers, such as DMG/DIPG, receive an extremely small portion of that 4%.
Current funding for research comes primarily from private foundations and academic institutions. With very few exceptions, the for-profit pharmaceutical industry does not invest its resources in pediatric brain cancer. There has never been a drug developed for pediatric brain cancer.
